Gutenberg editor has had its presence for a while in the world of WordPress as a plugin but it is soon going to be the future of today’s predecessor – the Visual Editor. It has been already announced that the support for Visual Editor is only till December 31, 2021.
And with WordPress 5.0 being completely loaded with a fully operational Gutenberg editor, it is time that we looked at the key changes that it will manifest.
More Intuitive
The Gutenberg offers a more intuitive experience to its users keeping in mind the likes of Wix and Squarespace who have revved up their game with new age features to attract new audience. The existing editor is good but not great and it definitely needs an upgrade like Gutenberg.
Storing Block Information In HTML Comments
The HTML comments will now store all the information about your blocks in the back-end, without even rendering them live on the front end pages.
Install-Uninstall Is Hassle Free
Gutenberg doesn’t react adversely with any of your site code in case you need to uninstall it because all your block information is stored in a inactive state as HTML comments. You can still view them in the Page Source mode.
Text Format
Retention Based on its past learning curve, Gutenberg now has improved its text format retention abilities. Now you can easily copy paste your headlines, paragraphs etc. without worrying about losing those bold and italicized format in the process.
Evergreen Content
With the help of HTML 5 tags you can categorize all your content sections and figures in block format and make sure that your content is always future ready.
Customization
For Developers, Gutenberg offers the flexibility to create their own custom blocks depending on their own unique requirements
Afterthought
Though Gutenberg’s first focus was to improve its content visualization by removing all the clutter and unifying its user interface but as stated in WordPress’s official page, that they are looking at the customization aspect of the editor to increase its user friendliness and leverage its REST API completely.
